Recognizing when a Cough Isn’t Just a Cough
22 May 2025

OVERVIEW
When you travel to a remote destination, you should always have access to concierge medical services. In this example, we show how our expert medical care saved a patient from a pulmonary embolism.
A young, and otherwise healthy, executive learned this first-hand when he consulted our medical team about what he believed was a routine issue. A persistent cough had followed him for days, subtle yet unyielding, accompanied by a faint ache each time he drew a deep breath. Initially dismissing it as a nuisance, he sought out our medics for cough medicine – nothing more. Though to the trained eyes and ears of the Crisis24 medical team, this cough wasn't just a cough.
During their assessment, the medical team detected slightly diminished breath sounds in one lung. Combined with an oxygen saturation of 88%—well below the normal threshold of 95%. They knew this warranted deeper investigation. They performed a 12-lead EKG, and while the test itself is standard, they uncovered the subtle but critical markers suggestive of a pulmonary embolism.
This isn’t just a story about a lucky break. It’s a powerful example of the advanced clinical skills, critical thinking, and seamless global coordination that define Crisis24’s medical teams. It’s a testament to what is possible when world-class medicine meets personalized attention.
