Crisis24 Provides Crisis Response Services to Deliver Humanitarian Aid to Persons Displaced by Turkey Earthquakes

Situational Analysis
At 4:17 am local time on February 6, 2023, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck 23 miles northwest of Gaziantep, Turkey. For two weeks, more than 60 aftershocks and additional earthquakes shook the region, adding to the mounting death toll and injured.
The Turkish government declared a State of Emergency in the ten affected provinces Requests for humanitarian aid have been accelerated as a result of impassable roadways, crumbled buildings, and significant disruptions to essential water supplies, fuel, and electricity supplies.
Critical Event Overview
A Crisis24 insurance partner contacted our global operations center hotline requesting assistance to provide humanitarian aid to a client with displaced employees in Southern Turkey. Crisis24’s incident management team immediately implemented response protocols to evaluate the number of people impacted, the operating environment, the number of locations requiring assistance, and the volume of essential supplies required. Upon notification of the client’s approval to proceed, the incident management team:
- Developed a communication plan that included contact names and numbers, welfare check-in schedule, and alternate modes of communication
- Created a transportation plan that incorporated a secure route plan, and the acquisition of vehicles and drivers
- Determined how to secure and purchase the necessary provisions, prepare the items, and load them into a transport vehicle
The in-country Crisis24 team departed Istanbul for the 585-mile,12-hour drive to Adana in Southern Turkey. The convoy successfully delivered the supplies to the end client, who distributed the essential items to families in the region.
