Journey Management in Action: Safeguarding Travelers Amid High-Risk Conditions
23 Dec 2025

Situational Analysis
A global agriculture and mineral processing company engaged Crisis24 to provide Journey Management services for two employees traveling to a conference in Guayaquil, Ecuador. With the knowledge that Guayaquil has high rates of crime and experiences the highest rate of non-political gang-related bombings of any city in Ecuador, the company sought a comprehensive solution to ensure traveler safety.
Crisis24 provided a thorough Journey Management solution, delivering end-to-end support that included pre-trip risk assessments, on-the-ground security measures, and post-trip evaluations. This proactive approach laid the foundation for a secure and uninterrupted travel experience.
Crisis24 in Action
Due to the elevated security risks, it was advised that the employees be chauffeured while traveling around the city and should stay in their hotel when not attending to business commitments. Our experienced protective team met the clients at the airport and subsequently escorted them between the hotel, conference venue, and other required locations without incident. Several days into the trip, while all parties were at the hotel, an unexpected blast was heard nearby. The explosion occurred approximately 150 meters from the building. In this moment, the speed, collaboration, and relationship between Crisis24’s intelligence and operations teams were pivotal in ensuring situational awareness and the safety of the travelers.
The protective agents acted immediately, confirming the travelers were safe inside the hotel and reinforced the protocol of limited non-emergency movement. The agents then turned to the analysts in our 24/7 Global Operations Center for more information. Through rapid intelligence gathering and assessment, they were able to determine that a car bomb had been detonated, that it was likely criminal in nature, and had caused minimal damage. Following discussions between the operations center and protective team, it was determined that the incident posed no ongoing direct threat, and that staying at the hotel remained the safest option. Crisis24 also promptly notified the designated emergency contact at the client company to ensure continuity of care and operational transparency.
Results
The employees completed their trip as planned, attending the conference and returning home on schedule without any disruption. The car-bomb reinforced the accuracy of our initial risk assessment and the effectiveness of the measures implemented. Additionally, the timely intelligence alerts and swift communication demonstrated our operational capability and commitment to client safety, validating the strength of our integrated approach to travel risk management.
