Flash Alert: Iran Fires Missiles Targeting US Military Bases in Qatar and Iraq; Bahrain and Kuwait Close Airspace

Iran confirmed that they fired multiple missiles against US military installations in Iraq and Qatar June 23. The Iranian attack is in response to the US having launched an attack on Iranian nuclear installations June 22. Qatari and US air defense systems intercepted missiles likely intended for Qatar's Al Udeid Air Base. In Iraq, projectiles reportedly targeted Ain Al Assad Air Base. There have been no immediate reports of casualties.
Qatar closed its airspace earlier on June 23. Bahrain and Kuwait have also announced the temporary suspension of air traffic in their airspace. Unconfirmed reports indicated that Emirati airspace was closed, likely out of an abundance of caution.
Air raid sirens have reportedly been heard in several Gulf countries, including Kuwait and Bahrain, likely out of an abundance of caution; there have been no reports confirming missiles targeting either country as of yet. Additional missile attacks are possible over the coming days.
This is a developing situation; additional information will be issued as warranted.
Advice for Travelers in the Region
Defer all travel to Iraq until further notice. If in the country, minimize nonessential movement.
In Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain, avoid nonessential flight activity in the restricted airspace zone. If necessary, contact the appropriate aviation authorities to obtain flight authorization codes. Reconfirm all travel arrangements.
Avoid the targeted areas and all US military installations and government facilities, as these may become flashpoints for additional violence or attacks. If incoming projectiles or rocket fire are reported, or if warning sirens sound in the vicinity, immediately proceed to the nearest bomb shelter and remain there until authorities indicate it is safe to leave. If no shelter is available, stay indoors, away from windows and exterior walls. If feasible, relocate to a ground floor or basement level for added protection.
Maintain regular contact with diplomatic missions for updates and assistance.
Avoid all demonstrations, political gatherings, areas with a heavy security presence, and all military installations or government facilities, as these may become flashpoints for violence or targeted attacks.
Before traveling, reconfirm the status of all flights, including through TLV, and the operational status of major roads and border crossings. If air travel remains operational, arrive at airports well in advance to allow for extended security screening and potential delays.
Continue to monitor reliable local media sources and official government channels for real-time updates.
Follow all instructions issued by local authorities and security personnel without delay.
