Global Energy Company Uses Emergency Alerts to Keep Employees Informed and Safe
Situational Analysis
Ensuring Employee Safety in Crisis Situations
A global energy management and automation company prioritizes the safety of its workforce, which spans the US, Canada, Mexico, and Latin America, as a fundamental corporate value.
To that end, the company has relied on their Mass Notification system from Crisis24 for many years to send location-based emergency alerts that target employees based on their assigned office locations. Given the rise in remote and hybrid work, however, there was a growing need to also deliver communications to employees based on their home locations.
Crisis24 In Action
Delivering the Right Message to the Right Recipient at the Right Time
To enhance its crisis management and employee safety program, the company leveraged the geofencing capabilities of their Mass Notification system. Since they had previously added employees' home postal codes into the system, the company could precisely target workers based on their residential locations, confirm their safety or need for assistance, and direct them to the appropriate resources as needed. Company leadership, highly invested in employee safety and well-being, received real-time updates on impacted employees.
The devastating wildfires in Southern California in 2025 put the Mass Notification system to the test. The crisis management team was able to drop a pin on a map and expand a geofence radius to identify employees within proximity to the multiple wildfires breaking out. Instead of sending notifications to all employees assigned to the company’s regional offices, which comprised hundreds of individuals, the system identified and messaged only the employees residing within the wildfire impact zone and evacuation area.
Using the system’s two-way messaging capabilities, employees could respond with critical updates, such as whether they had to evacuate, whether they sustained damage to their homes, and if they required assistance.
Results
Protecting Every Employee and Preserving Business Continuity
Mass Notification significantly improved the company’s ability to protect its employees in crisis situations and fulfill its duty of care.
Enabling Faster Employee Outreach and Crisis Response
Previously, the company relied on a mapping function in a spreadsheet to import and organize employee zip codes, which was not only time-consuming but also prone to inaccuracies. Geofencing provided a seamless, automated way to locate impacted employees in minutes, ensuring that crisis response teams could focus on actual relief efforts rather than data analysis.
Streamlining Internal Visibility and Communications
The company’s executive leadership is highly invested in the safety of its employees, and after an emergency inevitably asks: Do we have any employees in the path of the disaster? Is everyone accounted for? Are we providing appropriate support? With the Mass Notification system, the safety and crisis management personnel are now equipped with the necessary data to quickly respond to leadership inquiries and provide accurate, real-time updates; this significantly enhances corporate confidence in the company’s crisis management team.
Maintaining Business Continuity
The efficiency of Mass Notification prevented excessive disruption to business operations by ensuring that only affected employees were contacted. This targeted communication approach minimized operational inefficiencies and ensured that resources were allocated where they were needed most.
Setting a High Standard for Duty of Care
The implementation of Mass Notification with geofencing has revolutionized the company’s approach to employee safety during crises, and the company continues to set a high standard in leveraging technology to enhance duty of care. Mass Notification has proven indispensable in safeguarding the company’s most valuable asset—its people.
